With two contrasting movements full of modern harmonies and catchy rhythms, this piece would make a great addition to a advanced high school or collegiate concert.

Program Notes
The title Mono/Pastel refers to the contrasts between the piece’s two movements. The first movement has a gloomy atmosphere full of modern, jazz-like harmonies. The music starts with an introduction in the trumpets, followed by the main theme in 5/4 in the clarinets. At the end of the first movement the sound alters to a lighter atmosphere in order to transition into the following movement.
The second movement is bright, lively, and full of vigor. The rhythmic patterns in the low instruments are key to the movement’s grooviness, with the written accents and staccatos contributing to a jazz-like feel.
